Youth research

"Jugend forscht" (a research competition open to young people) is the largest European competition in science and technology. Every year there are 100 competitions in all areas of technology in Germany. The competition is supported by partners such as the German Federal Government, Stern, industry and science, as well as the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs.

For thyssenkrupp rothe erde Germany GmbH it has become a tradition to participate in this competition. Since 1998, a group of 2 to 3 trainees from the Lippstadt plant has been joining forces every year to take part in the "Jugend forscht" competition. These are at least in the 2nd training year.

How will the project be implemented?

After registration, ideas are developed either on the initiative of the trainees themselves or in the company's departments. A solution should always be developed that can be used in the company and, if necessary, can improve production processes.

The project is carried out to a large extent by the trainees themselves, and the trainer is always on hand to answer questions. Intermediate results are discussed with the trainers, who ensure a balance between costs, benefits and complexity.

The development phase lasts 3 months. Once these 3 months have passed, the project will be written and sent to the jury. On the day of the competition, trainees have the opportunity to present their projects in the regional competition of the subject area "Work Environment" or "Technology". Each trainee of the group takes over a part of the presentation.

The regional winners qualify for participation in the state competition. All the Jugend forscht state winners start at the federal finals and will have the chance to see if their designs stand up against the best inventions in the state.

The winners will receive cash, non-cash prizes or a prize for participation in excursions.
