Humanity and cohesion - these two words have gained in importance in recent months. The outbreak of the Corona virus has brought people closer together despite social distancing. The numerous initiatives and aid campaigns show that help is often urgently needed locally - and not just in times of Corona. The thyssenkrupp rothe erde team also knows this and has therefore collected donations for the SOS Children's Village in Dortmund.
Making the world a little better - that is the claim of SOS Children's Villages. For over 60 years, the charity has been giving children around the world a safe home when they can no longer live with their families for various reasons. Today, 39 facilities at 240 locations support children, young people and families throughout Germany. One of these locations is the SOS Children's Village Center in Dortmund. Whether meeting place, mediator, conversation partner, tutoring or open ear - the facilities offer support to the youngest and their relatives in difficult life situations. In this way, the association makes an important contribution to society.
And it is precisely this commitment that thyssenkrupp rothe erde is committed to supporting. After all, the SOS Children's Village in Dortmund is virtually in the company's neighborhood. "Why always think big when help is just as needed on our doorstep?" explains Jana Berning, Head of Marketing at thyssenkrupp rothe erde in Dortmund. "Anna-Lena Koring, a colleague from our team, lives near the children's village, which is very centrally located in the eastern city center. It was through her that the contact was made."
In total, the thyssenkrupp rothe erde colleagues donated 700,00 euros to the SOS Children's Village in Dortmund. "The money will benefit the children in the Children's Village family and the clarification group. This will enable us to finance special support but also a wide range of leisure activities for the children," says Katrin Ziegast, who is responsible for public relations at the children's village in Dortmund. Despite currently limited activity possibilities, this donation is intended to make the children's eyes in the SOS Children's Village shine again.
"We have the resolution to engage ourselves mainly locally socially", explains Jana Berning further. "The SOS Children's Village is a good example of this." But social commitment is not only important to the colleagues at thyssenkrupp rothe erde in times of the Corona pandemic. "We regularly try to support local institutions and also pursue this resolution quite independently of Corona." That's why thyssenkrupp rothe erde colleagues will continue to support other local projects in the future - whether through small or large gestures, because one thing counts above all: the will to help.
