Nick Fischer
Product Manager at thyssenkrupp rothe erde USA Inc.
My background / my job
My background in Engineering, Technology, and Management has prepared me for my career path at thyssenkrupp rothe erde. I have always taken an interest in working hands-on, and understanding how things work. I enjoy meeting new people and working with others in order to achieve a common goal. Having these interests, I was able to obtain an ideal education involving technical core skills combined with business study.
I began at thyssenkrupp rothe erde as an Application Engineer, which involves working directly with customers and providing bearing solutions that meet the demands of their application. I have now transitioned into a Product manager with a primary focus on offshore related products and activities. In addition to developing technical proposals, I am responsible for providing sales support and maintaining healthy relationships with our customer base. My position at thyssenkrupp rothe erde allows for me to experience the best of both worlds.
My challenges
I am challenged to apply my technical knowledge to real-life problems, and implement creative solutions in order to meet customer requirements. Slewing bearings are very detail-oriented, and there are many driving factors to the overall success of our product. The challenge is to consistently supply the most efficient and effective solution, while considering the customer’s budget and project scope. Fortunately, thyssenkrupp rothe erde has been around for many years. We have seen all different types of situations and have learned a lot from our prior experiences. Being able to apply this prior knowledge to current projects and activities certainly helps overcome the daily challenges that I face.
My typical working day
My typical working day involves balancing sales tasks with engineering projects. Tasks include answering technical questions, working on application projects, reaching out to new potential customers, and generating quotations for existing accounts. I may be on the phone with a customer for 10 minutes discussing a new opportunity for an antenna bearing, and then the next minute I am working on the design portion for a new offshore crane bearing. Customer relationships are critical to the success of our company. Being in a position that represents thyssenkrupp rothe erde, it is important that I focus my efforts towards satisfying the customer’s intentions. Multitasking and project management skills are crucial in order to ensure my work is high-quality and accurate.
Our slogan is “engineering. tomorrow. together.” Together means for me …
